Some COVID-19 Patients are Healthy and Shows Zero Symptoms,Why? My Discussion with a Patient Earlier Today
Articles / 7 July, 2022
Many people are now becoming so concerned about why the new coronavirus is not an equal opportunity killer. Why do some people recover faster while some are being killed?. Here are some serious discussion engaged in with a senior police officer that visited the pharmacy this morning.
PHARMACIST: So how did you managed to get here in the mist of this lockdown?
OFFICER; I am a senior police officer.
PHARMACIST: OK that's fine.
OFFICER: I heard there are two more new cases in the state today while 21 people were discharged yesterday. PHARMACIST: yes that's true.
OFFICER: But how can the same virus affect people so differently — killing some while leaving others blissfully unaware that they have been infected at all?
PHARMACIST: it has been reported that more than half of people who acquire the infection develop either no symptoms at all or very mild symptoms to the point that they don’t even know they have it but they can transmit it, While just about 20% are the ones that develop severe symptoms, and these are the ones that are ending up in the hospital. The simple answer is we don’t know for sure why its killing people so differently but we know COVID-19 is more deadly in older people. It’s also more dangerous for those who have chronic lung disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, weakened immune systems and other underlying health issues. But how each of these contribute to mortality rates is not entirely clear, and they may not contribute in the same way.
OFFICER: if it is age related why do we keep hearing stories about seemingly healthy young people of about 32- year - old who are quickly struck down?
PHARMACIST: It may not be so much an issue of age but overall health status because there are 20-, 30- and 50-year-olds who, despite their relatively young age, are getting very sick. However, older people tend to accumulate more health issues. That is probably one of the reasons why older patients are not doing so well. It may be related to how a person’s particular immune system reacts with the virus that is responsible for how severely it will affect them.
The immune system is like the police and the virus like criminals. If the criminals are easily brought under control by quick response of the police, then the criminals don’t do much damage to the city. But if there is a delay by the police until the two sides are equally matched, then there will be a lot of collateral damage. That’s what we are seeing in the sickest patients. Therefore I beseech you brethren to spice up your lifestyle – to turbocharge your immune system.
1. Spice things up - Season your food with substances that have antioxidant, detoxification and antimicrobial properties. Example of such includes garlic, onions, ginger, turmeric and cayenne pepper.
2. Drink tea's rich in antioxidants called Polyphenols, which are efficient infection fighters.
3. Get enough sleep; a good night’s sleep (we’re talking 7-9 hours) can boost the T cells, which fight infection in the body.
4. Reduce stress; the brain and the immune system are in constant communication – when we are stressed, the brain produces more cortisol and prepares the body for emergency situations. But while it is doing that, it depresses our immune system.
5. Keep warm; cold viruses are more infectious at temperatures lower than 37°C, which is the average core body temperature. So wrap up warm when you go outside.
6. Staying hydrated helps your body naturally eliminate toxins and other bacteria that might cause illness. Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day.
7. Never forget to talk to your pharmacist/doctor for the appropriate immune boosters needed for supplementation. Together we shall win this battle.
